“Insist upon yourself. Be original.” ~Ralph Waldo Emerson
The onset of autumn always makes me nostalgic. I miss days gone by when BEing who we really are was easier. You know? Like when you were a kid getting into “back to school” mode? Didn’t life seem simpler then? We just were WHO we were? We were lighter then, yes? Free. No stress. Just up, down and all around, with no apologies.
Think back to a time when you felt REALLY connected. Connected to you. When it felt good to just BE. Because that’s the you we want to get back to this season. The REAL you. Underneath all the stuff. The you, you’re meant to be. Divine designed, YOU! Let’s focus our attention this month on expressing our true, authentic and unique nature. There is NO other YOU on this planet. How can you express YOUR true passions? Your true creativity? Your true dreams and desires? Let’s look at how to get back to YOU!
“Be a first rate version of yourself, not a second rate version of someone else” ~Judy Garland
Damn – You Look Good
Walk your fine self into the bathroom. Check out what’s in the mirror. Take a good look. What do you see? What qualities are undeniably you? Got freckles? Where? How many? Scattered about or just a sprinkle here and there? How bout scars? Got any of those? (I do. A half dollar size one on my shoulder. I wouldn’t cover it up for anything…it makes me ME). Where are they? How did you earn it/them?
What color are your eyes? Do they remind you of mom? Dad? How tall are you? What texture is your hair? Really LOOK at yourself. Know that there is NO other that looks just like you. (Unless you’re a twin.)
How about the way you carry yourself? Do you hold your head high and carry yourself with confidence? Or do you keep your eyes down and avoid eye contact with others? Do you present an open approachable air or as closed off and defensive?
What about the way you dress? Do you dress yourself as the Divine being that you are? Or do you not focus on this important aspect of your being? The makeover shows are popular for a reason. Watch them sometime. People have emotional breakthroughs. You CAN begin to transform your life, just by dressing Divine.
Know that, YOU are all that! There’s no one else in this world that you need to look like. Getting in shape is an awesome goal, but only if it’s to get healthy and fit. Saying, “I want to look like Paris Hilton or Brad Pitt” is crazy talk! Why be a second rate version of someone else, when you could be a first rate version of you? Let’s shift our focus away from the comparison game, and accept who WE are. Our so-called “flaws” make us unique.
If you aren’t happy with the way you look, choose to take action. If you want to lose weight, get with a nutritionist. Check out several weight loss programs. If it’s fitness, go for walks. Ride a bike, get to the gym, join a team. Get outside! There is a whole world out there just waiting to help you get fit. Commit to action if that’s what YOU want to do. NOT because the latest celeb rags say thin is in.
Get a great haircut and use quality products. Get your nails done professionally at least once a month. Get massages from time to time. Treat your body like the temple it is. It’s YOUR temple. No one else is going to love and appreciate it if you don’t. Love YOU. The you you’ve already got. Look yourself in the eyes every morning and tell yourself that you love you. No kidding. It works! (I’ve even written it on the bathroom mirror).
How can you celebrate being in YOUR body this month? What delicious self-care rituals can you create to nurture YOU?
Light my Fire
“We must live in such a way that the splendor of our lives, the passion of our lives, and the beauty of our lives reaches out in a flame of divine passion that awakens the divine passion in others.” ~ Andrew Harvey author
I absolutely ADORE this quote. For me, this captures the reason we’re all here. To light up. To shine brightly. To help light up others. Imagine what our world would look like if we were all syncing up with our passions and our purpose? How can we shine brighter? How can we live more passionately? How can we BEcome more authentically us?
Wanna know how? More PLAY time. Uh-huh. That’s right. Get dirty. Get messy. Get down on the floor and roll around with your dogs. Get in the sandbox and play with your kids. Pull out the paint that’s half dried up in the closet and splatter it all over something. Get in your garden and get dirt underneath your nails. Go to the zoo. Visit a comedy club. Borrow your friend’s kids if you don’t have any and take them to the playground. Climb on the jungle gym. Swing. Slide down the slide. Hang upside down from the monkey bars. Laugh your ass off!
Run. (Kelly does). Skip. Roller-skate (Robin does!) Spin (Lisa does.) Karaoke (Me & Michelle & Con do). Play the guitar (Alanna does). Take pictures. Visit the butterfly house. Jump on a trampoline. Knit a scarf. Bake cookies. Walk thru an art gallery.
Open up that FUN channel of energy. As adults we often forget that it’s OK to still have FUN! When you laugh and FEEL that warm, positive energy flow through you, you stir up the goodness and break down the negative mojo in your body. When you are having FUN you feel good. When you feel good, you radiate positive energy and vibrate at a higher frequency. Therefore, attracting more amazing things into your life. Trust me. FUN + JOY+ LAUGHTER+HAPPY = magnetizing abundance easily and automatically.
What playful adventures will you get into this month? How can you laugh more each day? What people can you surround yourself with that put a smile on your face?
“Work while you have the light. You are responsible for the talent that has been entrusted to you.” ~Henri Frederic Amiel
In-Tune-ition
I’m re-naming intuition, “In-Tune-ition”. When we’re able to strengthen our intuition and hear that internal signal sending us messages, we’re able to increase the flow and momentum in our daily lives. Not sure what intuition sounds like? Ever have a “gut feeling”? Does your stomach tie up in knots when you think of or are involved in a certain situation or face to face with certain people? Ever get the chills, or “hear” a certain word in your head? How about “see” a flash or an image? Often intuition comes with no valid evidence. A “hit” does just that. It “hits” you as if by random chance. I also call them “taps” on the shoulder. That’s intuition at work.
Each month Spirituality & Health magazine is taking a look at “distributive intelligence”. The finding that “brains” are located throughout the body. Taking note that, “the mind is not just the brain, that a gut feeling is literally in the gut.” How amazing is that? We don’t need to over intellectualize anymore. We can literally use ALL of our senses to decipher information and come to a more fully authentic CHOICE when making decisions!
Next time you feel a tug at your heart strings, a tap on your shoulder, a gut feeling, the hairs on the back of your neck stand up, a wave of energy pass through you, a flash of a picture or image, hear a voice speaking a word or phrase – LISTEN to it and heed it’s call. Our higher selves are one step ahead of us. They can see the bigger vision for our lives and send us messages any way they can. It is our job to “tune-in” and listen. What are some ways you can tune in? Try these 7 tips to help you…
1)Get plenty of rest. Sleep deprivation makes us fuzzy and can scramble our internal radar. When we are well rested, we are more alert, more alive and more likely to pick up on subtle cues, clues and messages.
2)Eat healthier. Treating our bodies like the “brains” that they are, is essential for six-sensory living. When we feel “light” and healthy, we are more tuned into that higher frequency. Think about how you feel after gorging out on Thanksgiving. You want to sit on the couch, unbutton your pants and take a nap, right? Now, think about how you feel after you’ve eaten a healthy salad or nutritious meal of chicken, fish or veggies. Different feeling, yes? I’m not saying I don’t indulge in my favorites (chicken nachos & Bohemia beer) from time to time too, but opt to stick with lean and light the majority of the time, and you’ll stay more tuned in.
3)Move! No need to get a gym membership, spend lots of money on fitness equipment or a fancy workout wardrobe. Just MOVE! If you are fortunate enough to have functioning legs and feet, be thankful for that, and USE them. Put on your shoes and walk. Run. Ride a bike. Do some yoga. Go out dancing. Fire up your favorite music and shake your booty in your living room. Run around with the kids in the backyard. You don’t need to be a tri-athlete to move your body in healthy ways. Moving your body stirs your soul. Again, helping you to tune in.
4)Be open-minded. If you aren’t used to hearing that voice (and I’m not talking “voices”, that requires more serious investigation), it might be disconcerting at first. Start by trusting your FEELINGS, and go with that sense of KNOWING. Don’t try to analyze or over-intellectualize. Just go with your first instinct. That is spirit talking and when you FEEL it coming in loud and clear, don’t question it.
5)Maintain a gratitude attitude. The more you say thank you for your connection to your higher self, your higher power, your higher energy source, the more open to that connection you will become. A simple “thank you” on a daily basis works just fine. I keep a gratitude journal and list at least 5 things each day that I am thankful for. Try it and watch the goodness you attract into your life! Or simply say thank you in your head. When I’m walking the dogs I say, “Thank you for the wet grass beneath my feet. Thank you for this sunrise. Thank you for this quiet time and space to myself. Thank you for this beautiful day. Thank you for the birds singing and the wind chimes ringing.” You see? It’s easy. Just say thanks.
6)Quiet down. The modern day distractions we live with - TV, radio, and the interactions through phone and e-mail – can all be overwhelming. Take time to unplug for a bit each day. In order to “tune in” sometimes we’ve got to get quiet. The background noise of the TV bombards our minds with messages. To hear the messages that increase real momentum in our lives, we need to quiet those chattering voices. If you normally keep the TV on while house cleaning, cooking dinner or playing with your kids, try turning it off. Start with just an hour a day and see how refreshed you can feel without the background racket.
7)Clean up your space. The visual chaos in your home is very similar to the racket that TV and radio can produce. Look around your living space. When your eyes scan the room, do they have lovely objects and pictures to STOP and linger on for a while? Or do you scan the room and want to go into hiding because just looking at all the clutter – piles of magazines, mail, toys, old dishes or knick-knacks that no longer serve your purpose –overwhelm you? Junk causes anxiety. Clutter causes visual claustrophobia and can scramble our internal radar.
“Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.” ~Dr. Suess
RX for Success
Could the good Dr. Suess have said it any better? This month’s theme is all about YOU. Expressing who you are - IS your greatest gift to give in this world. It IS your purpose. Tapping into what makes you happy, is your only job. There is no mightier task at hand. Because when we feel good, we light up. From the inside out. When we light up. We open up. We open our hearts, our minds, and our souls. When we open up, we connect. When we connect with others we raise the vibration and energy level on this lovely, dizzy planet called Earth.
We were not put here to live a life of pain and struggle or to carry heavy hearts. Our purpose is to BE who we are. A unique and beautiful expression of that one infinite source energy. God. Goddess. Universal energy. Jesus. Buddha. I don’t care what you call it. We were born to be a channel with which to fulfill the work of that one true power. It moves through us. AS us.
By BEing our unique and authentic selves, we move one step closer to expressing that glorious power within us. By accepting who we are, right now, in this moment - choosing to change the things that WE are moved to choose, we are fulfilling our birthright.
Creating time and space to incorporate PLAY into our busy lives, we open up that channel allowing for more peace, love, and positive energy to flow into our lives. By “tuning in” to our higher selves and listening for those quiet, yet powerful messages that is really spirit speaking directly to us, we unhook ourselves from old ways of thinking. By living in gratitude, we increase the momentum of abundance that rolls our way. When we say thanks for what we already have, and again for the things we desire to have – as if we already have it - we step into the process of co-creating our own reality.
What kind of reality are YOU are co-creating? Are you creating a life of peace or chaos? Are you spreading love or fear? Are you creating health, wealth and wisdom or are you creating sickness, scarcity and ignorance? Change your mind and you will change your life. Choose to BE who you really are. If your old ways of behaving don’t suit you anymore, change them.
If your old habits around eating and fitness aren’t inspiring you anymore, change them. Not thrilled with your relationships or friendships? Evaluate if these relationships increase your energy or deplete your energy and choose to move forward. Either reconstruct a new version through healthy communication or decide to walk away. Choose to focus on what serves you in your life. Don’t play the victim or the martyr. You are better suited to serve others if you get back to you first.
Until next month, be well. Be bold. Be bad-ass. Be YOU. In all your beautiful glory!
Much love,
Kammie K.
