Hootie & the Blowfish Use Me for the Greater Good

Passionate Theme of the Day: Surrender

“…I wanna spread the news that if it feels this good getting used
Oh you just keep on using me until you use me up.”
~Bill Withers from the song Use Me

G’day Passionate People! Ya’ll KNOW I’m a music maniac, right? I always find inspiration though the words, sounds and beats that music serves up hot and delicious anytime we’re ready for a nibble.

Well I’ve been diggin’ on this Hootie and the Blowfish rendition of Bill Withers song, Use Me. I know this song is not intended to be perceived in the way I’m about to discuss, but for the purpose of this post, I’m gonna share my re-interpretation of the song.

Lately I’ve found myself surrendering to the higher power/Universe/Divine/God or spirit. Life tends to flow so much easier when I just give it up and let go of MY control. (This can be challenging as I am a recovering control FREAK!). I believe there is an intended purpose and path for each of us to walk in this world. And when we get in the way of the natural flow of things, we get frustrated, confused and overwhelmed.

Recently, I’ve been lifting up my hands and shouting, “OK! You got it! Just USE me!” (Can’t you see me rockin’ out in my kick-ass Camry as I sing at full volume? Seriously I crank it so loud, my mirrors vibrate!)

Whichever way I’m intended to show up each day. USE me. I’m surrendering to be a channel for the messages that are to be received by someone else thru me today. USE me to smile at a stranger, to let someone pull in front of me on the street, to donate my pocket change to charity, to offer to proof read a friend’s document.

USE me to write these words. To make people laugh. To show up each day and light up even when I’m feeling funky, fraidy-cat like or blah. USE me to do the work that I am intended to do each and everyday.

Today it might be writing blog posts and teaching communications classes at a university. Tomorrow it might be writing books and hosting radio or TV shows. It certainly looks different today than it did 5 years ago.

Looking back I see how each step I took moved me synchronistically along a path that brought me here. To write these words. To arrive in your in-box, or “accidentally on purpose” if you’ve stumbled upon me while Google searching Hootie and the Blowfish lyrics. I’m trying to surrender more and control freak less. Wanna join me?

I invite you to surrender with me. To give it up. To let go. To free your mind from the shackles of fear, self-doubt and negative self talk. You CAN be all that you desire and MORE than you ever imagined in THIS life. OPEN your eyes to the inspiration that might strike you and tap into THAT. (Hey, I just found inspiration in a Hootie song). Then offer yourself up each day.

Ask to be USED in a way that leaves you ready for more at the end of each day. When we’re spent and satiated and hit the pillow saying “Thank You”, we’re tuned in and turned on. What more could you ask for?

What ways do you want to be used for the greater good today? How can you be a channel for spirit to work its magic?

Tuning in to a higher frequency,
Kam

ps…on another musical note~ my friend Maria Palma, of The Good Life, created a new blog called No Song Unsung. Here’s their mission: “To unify humanity through words and music without bias nor barriers. To revolutionize the way we think about music. To open minds and expand our realities.”
Rock on mama!

Kam,

Hmm, I hear the words. Want to believe the words.  But boy, oh boy...I struggle with the words.

How does one go from coveting it to actually doing it?

Drew <--- standing on the edge to jump off with you...but secretly curling my toes so I don’t go over!

Drew~

Not sure...but I think I’m hearing fear of letting go? If so...that has been a BIG issue for me as well.

That’s what’s cool about our safe community of online friends to play with...here, grab my hand, I’ll walk right on up to the edge and jump with you. See? It’s easy! Just close your eyes, and see yourself landing safely and securely!!

If the leap seems too big just yet, take baby steps. Remember that movie What About Bob? Baby steps, baby steps… One step at a time my friend!!

Plus, odds are, there is a plan far GRANDER than we could even imagine for ourselves. We need a wing-man/wing-woman/wing-spirit to help us soar even higher...it’s really not about US, it’s about a bigger picture, an interconnected weaving together of you and me and we and thee...you see?

I love this post, Kammie.  Just reading it makes me feel lighter.  Letting go, when all is said and done, is really about releasing resistance.  That’s why letting go can feel so good.

Thanks for the reminder to surrender, let go, whatever we call that process that doesn’t yet feel natural for most of us . . . but is still worth doing.

Debbie,

Welcome to PMP!! I’m glad you like the post...yes, letting go can be scary. But I am finding it’s SO freeing!

PLus, I start ot manifest GREAT and aamazing things almost INSTANTLY when I get out of the way...I started today saying “I am connected to the unlimited abundance of the Universe” and “I deserve to be prosperous” and kept saying all day long..."Life is GOOD” and 2 really cool opportunities fell outta the sky!

Now I KNOW I couldn’t have planned for wither of these...these are the kinds of things that happen when we let go…

Thanks for stopping by Debbie...please come back and join in often!!

Hey Gurl!
I’m with ya 100%!
My mother always would say, “Let go, and let God.”
I didn’t get ‘it’ for many years...but ya know, when you do just go....things happen.

I’m not saying it has to be God, god, gawd, etc...but a great good in this plane of existence deals out the cards in our hand of life.

Rocking with ya and Hootie.

Kam,

Ohh, if it were only that easy.  And yet, I know it is just that easy.

There’s more than a dash of control freak in me.  I’m sure its a blend of oldest child, entrepreneur, boss, dad, big brother—you get the picture.

And yet in some ways, I have always been happy to take a leap (sometimes without looking first).

Maybe its situational.  But interestingly enough, I typically leap quickly when the stakes are high and get too locked in when they’re not.

Perhaps I will see it as striking balance??

Best,

Drew

Sandie~

Hey grrlll, thanks for swinging by the PMP and taking some time off from all your reading!! Yes, I’ve heard that phrase too...let go and let God. It’s a good one!

I say call it what you will...just know that a force larger than ourselves is co-creating the magic, ya know?

Keep it real sistah!

Drew~

yes, striking a balance sounds good. We sound a lot alike! I tend to get bogged down in the details too much sometimes as well...and then other times just jump without even thinking of the consequences.

Let me know if you ever make it to that interesting place called BALANCE...send me a map if you get there...hahahsmile
