As I’ve mentioned, I’ve been on vacation this past week and what a JOY it has been. Not because I flew off to some island paradise. Didn’t sip fruity drinks with little umbrellas in them. No cabana boys to rub lotion on my back (although that doesn’t sound bad!) No - I was yet again reminded that the magic happens each and every day. Right where you are. The moment you OPEN you eyes.
What magical moments have I observed recently? I got to watch my favorite lyrical gangster, Jason Mraz, under the Arch here in STL on Sat. in all his glory. I love watching live music, especially Jason’s. He just let’s the music take over and the energy flow though him. I love his connection with the audience and how he writes about the beauty of life and living and really BEING here in this crazy mixed up place.
There was a sliver of a moon hanging near the side of the Arch, and as the night went on, our planet rotated, and the moon danced around the skyline ending up on the other side of the Arch. It was hot and sticky and humid. Feeling sweat roll down my back as I swayed to the music just added to the vibe of the evening.
The fireworks after the show were awesome. I stopped to really soak them in. How many times have I seen this site before? How many times in the past did I NOT stop and say THANK YOU? Thank you for the fact that I live in a country where I can walk among my neighbors and freely CHOOSE where I will go and what I will do. All without fear of car bombs or police raids or vigilantes? This time I stopped and said thanks.
Then we went out dancing to some old school funk and 80’s cheesy flashback music. Everything just flowed. We didn’t have to deal with traffic on the way to the city. Each time we stepped up to the metro platform the train rolled right up to pick us up. The Universe supported our evening of fun in every way. I’m convinced it had something to do with the affirmative action I began earlier that day.
All day I kept saying, “Tonight is gonna be SO fun! It’s going to be awesome! We’re gonna have SUCH a good time”. I was designing the evening in advance and the Universe stepped up to support my every request. I envisioned no traffic issues and rock star parking and VIP treatment and that’s what we got. We even showed up 20 minutes before the show and walked right up and got front row for the concert. It was as if Jason were singing right to my friends and me! How cool is that?
More present moment observations…one morning as I walked the dogs, Trixie started freaking out near a rock. Upon closer inspection it wasn’t a rock, but a cute little turtle poking it’s head out to say good morning. Yesterday while lounging on the couch and looking out my back balcony, a squirrel jumped down onto the railing, placed himself above the little garden Buddha I have on a bench, laid down on his belly, let his feet dangle over the edges and just stared at me! How freakin’ funny was that? I mean he really just sat there and we stared at each other for a couple of minutes. It was as if time has stopped and he just wanted to come and chill with me for a minute.
These were amazing and precious gifts of being present that I wouldn’t have “gotten” had I not been more tuned in to the magic that happens from moment to moment. So I say, stop. Look around you. See what gifts await you in the present. Let’s focus less on the future. And stop hanging out in the past. It’s OVER…forgive it/he/she/them, release it, wish it well and let it go! BE where you are!
What observations are you making in your present moment?
xo,
kam
