Passionate Theme of the Day: Appreciation
“What you appreciate, appreciates.” Lynn Twist
Lynn was one of the powerful keynote speakers last week at the ICF Conference. She is author of The Soul of Money: Transforming Your Relationship With Money and Life. The above quote is the basis for what Lynn calls the Great Principle of Sufficiency.
During her presentation she talked about the paradigm shift from ‘citizen’, (one who takes responsibility for the well-being of our community), to ‘consumers’ (those who take over, destroy, diminish, deplete). Lynn shared the 3 Toxic Myths of Scarcity, the lies we as a culture have told ourselves around money and prosperity:
1) Not enough to go around, someone has to be left out
2) More is better (an unconscious, unexamined belief)
(We receive 30,000 messages a day that we are not good enough and we need more to become complete. It does not stop, this endless chase. The self-storage industry is a sign of the “more is better” mentality. We’re building housing/apartments for stuff instead of homeless people.)
3) That’s just the way that it is (leads us not to question, resign ourselves)
Lynn says, “There is enough, you are enough. When you let go of the lies, it frees up oceans of energy to make a difference with what we already have. What we already have expands. What you appreciate, appreciates.”
What limiting beliefs are you still holding around money and prosperity? What could you appreciate today that will appreciate tomorrow?
What we focus on expands,
Kam
ps...thanks to Elyse (Prosperity coach) for sending follow up notes from the presentation!

I LOVE this topic. It’s one of my favorites. My fiance and I have personally experienced a blessing of abundance in the past year and a half after several years of scarcity. But when things were scarce, we kept our laurels about us and believed that some day the tide would turn, and it did.
Now that we have more abundance, I look for ways to share that with both loved ones and needy strangers. I truly believe in the Prayer of St. Francis--it is in giving that we receive. I think part of our abundance is related to giving...I think money has power, and when you respect it, it pays you back. When you use it to help others, you, in turn, are helped.
You asked what limiting beliefs I might still have. I think I still cast judgement on people by how THEY handle money. I get very cranky at financially irresponsible people. I need to let go of that, particularly as it relates to people close to me.
Great topic, Kam, as always

Rick~
Thanks for stopping by...good to see you here at PMP, welcome!
I was sooo inspired by Lynn, what a powerful, quiet energy that woman has...she has such an engaging presence.
I think my favorite of your 3 is, “You create your world”...short and sweet and oh so TRUE!
Thanks for your input Rick.
Reese~
Thanks for sharing the story about you and your husband. And thanks for sharing the bit about getting cranky with others with being “where they are” around money.
It can be challenging when the wool has come off our own eyes and we see the truth. I work on this one myself. This past year and a half, some major transformations have taken place in my life and I just wanted to shout it from the rooftops!!
But sometimes that can turn people off, so I realized that I have to just accept them where THEY are and allow them to walk the path in their own direction (even if I think I know a better route for them!!), and it DOES seem to be more difficult with those we love. But that’s just cuz we want what’s best for them!!
Anyways, thanks for your always inspiring addition to the conversation!
xo,
Kam

Lynn is a smart lady, Kammie. ‘Consumer’ is one of the most abusive, demeaning descriptions of a person that I can think of that can be said in public.
Three possible replacements:
1. There is more than enough for everyone. Creation is continuous.
2. Enough is enough. Too many things get in the way of living.
3. You create your world.
