PMP 14-Day Kick-in-the-Booty Challenge

Passionate Theme of the Day: Commitment

“Commitment unlocks the doors of imagination, allows vision, and gives us the “right stuff” to turn our dreams into reality.” James Womak

“There’s a difference between interest and commitment. When you’re interested in doing something, you do it only when circumstance permit. When you’re committed to something, you accept no excuses, only results.” ~Anonymous

“When work, commitment, and pleasure all become one and you reach that deep well where passion lives, nothing is impossible.” ~Anonymous

Hello passionate people. Returned this week from my visit to Cali. This much is clear. I WILL live at the beach! Not sure when, or how yet…but a plan is brewing. I LOVE the diversity, culture, laid-back attitude, gorgeous ocean (it helps balance my fiery Aries nature), cool people and health conscious mentality.

Had a blast visiting with my good friend Alana Gentry, I mentioned that she and her beau sang and played guitars for me (my favorite instrument – it’s sexy), met her friend Matt who is promoting his film about the Cubs winning the world series (as a Cards fan, I should dislike him – but I couldn’t he’s too sweet!), visited my coach Mary in Laguna Beach and spent a couple of days watching the FREE carnival that IS Venice Beach. WOW! Talk about FUN, and inspiring. I am overflowing with ideas and creativity.

Here’s why I’m talking about commitment. I realize I’d love to live in Cali. Now, I could just sell my condo and all my stuff and just go. My “vagabond-hippie-soul” side would love to just do it. But my practical, “let’s think this through” side says we need a plan. Which requires commitment. I’ll get back to how this ties into Cali in a second.

First I want to share an experiment I did for 14 days before I left. Last Aug. I declared that I would have a better body at 35 than I did at 25. So a large focus this year has been on healthier eating, fitness and positive self-talk. Feeling pretty solid with my mind & spirit, I just really want to own my ideal physical body. But the holidays hit and I fell into a rut.

I said I’d work out 5 days a week, but it was honestly more like 3 days one week, 4 days another, 2 days sometimes – just all over the board. So 2 weeks before I was set to fly into LAX I decided to up my game. I committed to working out for 14 days straight (inspiration from my fitness coach and mentor Sherrie from 365daysofgratitude.com). I figured if I could commit to 14 days straight why couldn’t I consistently commit to 5?

So I achieved my successful 14-day Kammie-Fitness-Bootycamp (pun intended). I didn’t kill myself. Just set clear boundaries of a minimum of 30-60 minutes a day of something physical. Some days I did yoga, spinning, running, walking or a DVD at home. With a little flexibility in my plan, I was able to THRIVE vs. strive and just did it.

Now I’m back home and am committing to putting my plan of action together for a move to take place by summer 2008. I know that just wishing or fantasizing about the beach isn’t going to get me there. I am also commited to continuing to grow my business this next year, so that I can transition to full self-employment and work from my laptop on the beach (I better add extra batteries to my list!).

My challenge to you is: What could you commit to doing for 14 days that would jump start a project, goal, plan, and idea or must have for you? If I could workout for 14 days straight YOU can do anything! I had my 14 day fitness challenge, now I’m committing to taking action on the Kammie-to-Cali plan for the next 14 days.

I’d love to hear what you will commit to for the next 14 days. Feel free to drop comments along the way. Let’s start the program on Monday the 18th and commit till Monday July 2nd.

I’ll check back in with a post on Monday June 25th to see how you’re all doing. You’ve got a head start this weekend to really think about how 14 days straight could build the momentum you need to really break through.

One of my favorite musicians Martin Sexton says, “One ounce action beats a ton of words”.

What action can you take consistently for 2 weeks that could change your life forever? Think about it and then get busy baby!

Passionate commitment vibes to you,
Kam

Actually, I think I will take your “booty” camp.
In the first of the year I was working out 5 to 6 days a week. And as summer approached I worried about my routine. And I was right. Just like last year. It is easier during my daughters school year. We have a routine. Drop off at school, head to the gym. But in the summer you really have to work for it. I have fallen back to 2 days a week. (Which is better than last summer which I did nothing)

So I think I will hit the “booty” camp.
Thanks Kammie this was exactly what I needed today.

Angel…

I hear ya sister! It’s like as soon as our routine gets shuffled, we lose momentum. So glad you’re on board for the Booty-campsmile

14 days straight should be just the boost you need to stick to your normal routine. Let me know if you ever need a shout out of encouragement.

I’m here in STL cheering you on all the way!

Kammie, so glad you’re back. I too am on for the bootie challenge. 14 days is just what I need, though in reality, for me, it takes only 3 to get me in it.

Can’t wait for you to move to California.

Counting the days…

Kam - I’m so glad that you enjoyed your time out here in my part of the world (I live about 2-3 miles from the very colorful Venice Beach). Also, before moving out here, I lived in Laguna Beach (a couple of blocks from the ocean). So, as another Aries, I definitely understand your passion for the ocean out here in Cali. Ironically, these and other desires of mine manifested with the familiar formula: identify desire/intention + release how, when, and if (i.e., surrender details to Higher Self) + take inspired action when (or if) opportunity presented itself = desires manifested. To me, the key to this formula is letting go and trusting “this or something better.” I know that doing this for 14 days or better, 30 days (or longer) has definitely changed my life. How’s that for a very ZenChill answer?

Lisa,

I SO wish I would have had time to make it further north to visit you...but I know it’s only a matter of time! While I was there, several SB signs presented themselves to me...just another indicator that “I’ll be back”. See you soon, talk to you soonersmile

Ray~

Funny that you are a fiery Aries as well...I met another cool coach friend (and fellow Aries) out there for lunch and her story was similar.

Seems that great big ocean helps balance out our heat! It just seems to call us out there...and I LOVE your formula...that’s basically what I’m doing.

Focusing on my end desire, releasing my need to control the how, surrendering to spirit the details, taking inspired daily action, and getting into the feeling of already being there. You’ll be on my list of people to visit on my next trip out! See you soonsmile

Kammie-

Thanks so much for what you do here. I’ve been reading for several months now, and your words and “prompts” are the perfect inspiration for making my life what I want it to be. I already have two two-week challenges planned.

For the next 14 days, I’m going to work out every day and get back into a routine of physical fitness, without obsessing about calories burned or cardio vs. strength vs. flexibility. If it’s good for my body, it counts for the next 14 days. Then, for the first two weeks of July, I plan to write every day for 14 days. I’ve had an awful time developing a consistant writing practice, so I figure setting a 14-day goal will give me the momentum (and success) I need to motivate me in reaching my “write everyday” goal.

Hi Kammie,

Thanks for this challenge, and I will take it up, but I will be a week behind if that’s ok.  Just back from two weeks holidays and have a big project taking up my attention for the rest of this week.  Will decide over the coming weekend what I will commit to and let you know…

Hilda.

Awesome idea! I will be posting my commitment and plan shortly. Thanks for the kick-in-the-booty!

5 consecutive days and counting! And it’s amazing what 30 minutes of yoga will do for you right before bed.

The best thing about this challenge is that I’m not requiring myself to workout on the treadmill for exactly 60 minutes everyday. I’ve given myself permission to do an activity I ENJOY for 30 to 60 minutes each day. Go figure that this permission to be flexible would make the difference in my ability to reach my goal!

Thanks for the kick in the butt.

Hi Kammie,

I just got started today and have posted on it - I needed the extra time to get fully committed to it.  I’m going to do a full hour of exercise every single day, in order to become fully aligned with my intention to be fit and healthy.  It’s really going to be a toughie for me - I’m lazy about exercise, but I think I’ve tapped into the right level of motivation now to stick with it.

Thanks for the challenge!
