Mother Nature Throws a Temper Tantrum - What's the Lesson?

Beauty. Nature. Energy. Tonight was interesting. Went to a showing of the much hyped movie, The Secret. Have heard both good and not so good reviews and it has sparked many a discussion. Anyway, about 30 minutes into the film, the power goes out. Keep in mind, when I walked into the building just a mere half-hour prior, the sun was shining and the heat was stifling.

But as is the norm in the STL, wait 5 minutes and the weather will change. We all headed out the door to catch a glimpse of the story that was unfolding right before our eyes. The wind was whipping fast and furiously (some reports were 65 MPH), the temp had dropped from about 105 to somewhere in the low 80’s, and the sky…look out! The sky was all kinds of crazy mixed up grays and greens.

I LOVE thunderstorms. I was like a kid in a candy store. You couldn’t wipe the grin off my face. The feel of the COOL air whipping across my face was a lil’ slice of heaven. Never mind the fact that dust and debris was swirling all around and polluting my contacts, I was diggin’ it.

What came to me after a treacherous drive home, (honestly my car was swerving all the way into the next lane and I could hardly see thru the sheets of rain slamming onto my windshield), was the sheer power and BEAUTY of nature. How amazing is it, that Mother Nature knows what she needs best and doesn’t mind who gets pissed off in the midst of her temper tantrum!?

She knew that it’s been just too damn hot! She knew we needed some solace from the heat. So she stirred up the winds, and gave us her heart as she had a big ol’ cry. Now things have cooled off, and there isn’t that stagnant, heavy feeling in the air anymore.

I love that she is so in tune with both her yin and her yang. That she can be sunny one minute and be a big bawling baby the next. And feel no guilt. No remorse. No shame. Just lets it out when she needs to. Shifts from mood to mood authentically and organically.

So I choose Mother Nature as my mentor tonight. I want to accept my moods and many colors with as much grace and beauty as she displayed tonight. We’ll clean up the debris tomorrow. The airport roof that blew off will be old news by the 5pm telecast tomorrow. We’ll all forget this little flare up. We’ll forgive her mess and move on.

Thank you Mother Nature, for sharing your gifts. Your beauty. Your dark. And your light.

Who is your mentor today? And how can you model them?

Yours in sunshine & rain,
kk
ps...going to try and see the movie again next Wed...will surely post some thoughts then

***pps...wanted to add that I wrote this post the evening of the storm. BEFORE I witnessed the damage and destruction this storm caused our city. I in no way intended to show slight or disregard for the many thousands of people who went a week or longer without power in St. Louis. Thanks to Jason who pointed out that although I’m eternally optimistic, sometimes shit happens! Again, apologies if this was misconstrued in any way.
