Mantras Magnify Strength & Clarify Focus

Passionate Theme of the Day: Meaningful Mantras

I recently posted this over at Coach Web. It’s a cool new site that’s not public yet, (sorry!) and I’m part of the testing crew. We’re coaches from all over the planet, with styles as diverse and varied as the colors of the rainbow. It’s kind of a social networking site for coaches, people looking for coaches, personal development info and other cool stuff! Since I can’t link directly to it yet…here it is:

Guy Kawasaki author, speaker, and ex-Apple marketing evangelist, talks about using brand mantras in his Art of Innovation presentation. I had the good fortune to see him present this at the Nov. 2006 ICF conference. I recently re-watched it to see if it might be something I could use in the speech class I’m teaching. (It IS…bonus!)

(Side note** If you’re into mind-mapping for brainstorming, note taking or organizing thoughts, check out this amazing woman who was also at the ICF conference…Martha McGinnis is a visual artist like none other…powerful visuals and great presentation follow-up! Check out her visual map of Guy’s presentation.)

Re-watching it got me thinking about this…if using a two or three word mantra is good for business and branding, how could it also be good for our personal productivity?

Here’s a random tangent and some tips that came to me yesterday after re-visiting Guy’s work:

My business name is Passion Meets Purpose…pretty much a mantra in and of itself (yeah for me!). But I could also consider it a basic mantra for my LIFE. My mission is to live passionately everyday and to help others fall in love with life.

To honor wherever it is I’m at from moment to moment. To show up and play full-out regardless of the circumstances. So those three words help anchor me if and when I get “off track” (thanks for helping me re-focus that last day of the conference Robert).

I’m also part of a coaching group (my coach lifecoachmary.com is genius) called the Conscious Creators. Hello…another mantra! Within that group we have had to choose several BUZZ words to help us focus from month to month (it’s a year long program). One month I really wanted to tap into my creativity, but from a more inner-empowered place of spirit. So I dubbed that month “Create Intuitively”.

Here are some other mantras that I might choose:

Conscious Surrender (surrender to the Universe – my wingman/woman/spirit, let go of need to control)
Joyful Vulnerability (be more open and look at the JOY in allowing myself to experience exposing myself emotionally)
Abundant Opportunities (umm, who doesn’t want more of those?)
Authentic Adoration (focus on REAL adoration of self & others, not surface or ego based compliments)
Relaxed Resourcefulness (chill out and accept that everything I need comes to me easily and automatically)
Kick-Ass Collaborations (attracting the BEST potential collaborators/business partners/supporters/clients/fans)
Synchronistic Spirituality (reminder to look at even the smallest sync as connection to spirit and acknowledgement from the Universe)

How might you use mantras to help remind you of YOUR truth? What BUZZ words really help you to shift your focus back on the goals you want to accomplish? How can these verbal anchors help keep you grounded in the midst of chaos or anxiety?

Try some words on for size and let me know what works for you…I’d love to hear!

Hi Kammie,

Saw your comment on Successful Blog today - “Keep on keeping on!” Yes, that makes a very good mantra.
Sometimes that’s all I can do, but I figure it at least keeps me in the game.

Also wanted to tell you I referenced your Blog in a post I did at LivingLeadership (Freeze Tag). Not really sure how to do trackbacks or pings yet. But, since I ran into you at Liz’s figured I’d let you know.
