Passionate Theme of the Day: Enthusiasm

I had the good fortune to attend a FREE seminar and witness the infectious James Ray (from the movie The Secret and featured on Larry King Live ) here in STL last night. If I had to describe James in one word, I would say WOW!

Talk about a bundle of energy, charisma, and good humor. Now, of course James was promoting his 2-day workshop, the Harmonic Wealth Weekend and his portfolio of life changing products and courses.

As a student of Law of Attraction and all things personal development, and as a coach and facilitator myself, it was enlightening to witness him in action. For many reasons and on many levels.

For starters, James is a master storyteller. He wove his points into a compelling two-hour presentation, but it felt like I was a kid again sitting on the floor in the library, listening to one of those after-school storytellers. (FYI – I was sitting on the floor, front and center because the room was standing room and sitting room only at over 550 people). No note cards. No PowerPoint. Only a flipchart to jot down a couple of key points.

As a college instructor and public speaker myself, I LOVE watching other speakers and gleaning tips and tricks from them. James had a way of repeating his key points and words in series of 3’s (ah, the power of 3’s) and continued to weave the earliest points all the way into the end of his tale effortlessly.

He mixed in quotes of the great philosophers like Einstein and Socrates with stories of the shoe shine guys in the Minnesota International Airport. James peppered his language with just enough street sass (“pissed-off”, “crap”, “get over it” ) creating a linguistic dynamic relatable to just about anyone and everyone in the room.

I took notes and wanted to share some of his points with you. James says the 5 qualities of truly wealthy people are:

Intention – He asked, “What do you intend for your life? What do you choose to create?”
Attention – He asked, “What are you in love with? Attention = LOVE”
“Energy flows where attention goes.”
Energy/Light – This is the “0 point field, Quantum Hologram, God”
“We have no energy when we are unplugged or disconnected form our source.”
Belief – 3 forms are: “personal, interpersonal, and environmental”
Growth – “Energy can not be created nor destroyed.” You are connected to everything you desire. You are hardwired to grow. “If you are not growing, you are dying.”

James also shared his 5 pillars of Harmonic Wealth:

Financial – “Love people, use money.”
Relationship – With self and others, “Until you have a perfect/loving relationship with yourself, you will continue to attract your incompleteness (in a partner).”
“What pisses you off about your mate is what you haven’t accepted about yourself.”
Intellectual – mental and emotional = energy in motion “We can not create what we are not.”
Physical – a) The Body – “Have love FOR the body. Not be in love WITH the body.”
b) Toys – PLAY with them, they are our birthright, we are “temporary custodians of them anyway” they come and go, let go of attachment to them and keep your head on.
Spiritual – personal one-on-one relationship with creative source/Universe/God

The second thing that was interesting to witness was his sales pitch. Talk about ballsy! When we first got seated, James asked us to pull out the worksheet with his products and services on it. He told us to fill out our personal contact info and then to pull out our credit cards and write the numbers down as well. Seriously. We’d only been in the room maybe 5 minutes and he was asking for our credit card numbers!

He said if we were truly committed to changing our lives in a way that we’d never committed before; we needed to be ready for when he made his special offer to 50 of the attendes at the end of the program. Interestingly enough, I’d left my wallet at home, but I enjoyed seeing the skepticism on people’s faces as he asked them to do this.

James proceeded with his presentation and at the end, pulled out the flip chart and wrote down the prices of the weekend workshop, companion price, 2 different CD workbook sets and then slashed the workshop price in half, threw in the companion for FREE and offered the CD workbooks for FREE as well to the first 50 people to make it to the sales table at the back of the room.

Here’s where things got funny…some people got up and walked out. But more than 50 people were climbing OVER other people and couldn’t get to the back of the room fast enough! I sat and watched it all in amazement.

I overheard one woman walking out say, “He’s a snake oil salesman!” LOL!! I thought to myself, “This is the same thing that happens in churches across the globe every Sunday”. In my mind, he’s trying to help people live better lives, open their awareness, receive the goodness (Godness) that is our birthright and sharing his passion and joy for life.

His message was positive, enthusiastic, insightful, inspiring and motivating. I felt much like I do when I listen to Wayne Dyer, Louise Hay, Dr. Michael Beckwith , or any other inspiring new thought leader, coach, personal development facilitator, or minister out there. If people were lit up after listening to James Ray’s presentation, why shouldn’t they pay him for more?

If people are transformed and their health, wealth and abundance increases as a result of the personal work they do to live a more inspired life because of seeing that presentation, than as far as I’m concerned – he’s done his job.

And that’s the beauty of, “It’s not what you do. It’s how you do it.” James does it with a smile on his face, a twinkle in his eyes, a spring in his step and an Armani suit on his fit and trim body. Who wouldn’t wanna roll like that? I know I do. Am I a fan? You bet!

James inspired me to up my game and stop thinking small (and I wasn’t thinking small when I walked in that room). I was reminded yet again, that we are connected to everything we desire. We create our reality.
