I Blog…Therefore, I AM

Passionate Theme of the Day: Spirit of Blogging
My good friend and super cool blogger-mom-NLP coach-entrepreneur, Wendy Piersall, recently wrote a post called, You Don’t Have to be Nelson Madela or Mother Theresa to Change the World - at emomsathome.com. Here’s a snippet:

“An interesting commonality between many of the readers of this blog (in fact, many bloggers in general) is that all of them blog from a place of passion and contribution. It seems as though all of us take our job rather seriously - our blogs, indeed, are really our “mission work”. No matter what your spiritual beliefs are, I know each and every one of you is finding a way to turn your past mistakes into gifts for your own readers. You are writing and adding value. You are giving. You are making a difference. Indeed, you are changing the world.”

Wendy goes on to list 17 of her favorite bloggers (THANKS again for including me Wendy!) most of which I’ve perused over the weekend and you can visit too by linking to her post (I’m so sleepy or I’d link them all here as well) and shares some AMAZING blogs. What was such a nice reminder was Wendy’s math around the “ripple effect” we bloggers can have…check it out:

“So let’s do the math. 17 bloggers, not even including myself. I guarantee each one of them has made a significant impact on at least three of their readers in their blogging history (I’m way underestimating here, for now). That’s 51 lives changed. And when lives change, so do the lives of the people around them. In fact, even more so than via blogging, because in person encounters are powerful indeed. I guarantee that each of those 51 people were nicer, happier, and more open with at least 3 people they know.

That’s a running total of 204 lives changed.

But then the ripple effect is even more compelling, because if each of those people just touch one more life, the running total doubles to 408.
And then to 816. To 1632. To 3264. Eventually landing me at 8,669,184 - that is, until you double that number too. Kind of like compound interest.”

WOW! How cool is that? That got me really thinking about why I blog and what I get out of it. Blogging allows me a creative outlet. An instant gratification form of self-expression. But it also allows me to channel the words that spirit feeds me. It opens a door in my soul and offers me access to connect with limitless amounts of “others”.

Some have become friends. Others business collaborators. Many have become Kam-bassadors and support me virtually whenever they sense I need it. Some just read and never comment, but I feel their presence anyway.

I love the connection and the energy I feel from blogging. I love that each time someone leaves a comment it adds to the initial post and shifts the direction of the dialogue and THAT is cool. It opens up new ways of thinking and being and dreaming.

I love writing my blog. I love leaving comments on others blogs. I love being part of a community that (for the most part) supports each others unique and individual creative expressions. The BIG bonus? Wendy reminded me that I just might be changing the world one blog post at a time. And THAT is a very cool thing indeed.

Why do YOU blog? What causes you to jump outta bed at 3 am when a zany idea hits you upside the head? What are the top 3 reasons you do what you do in this precious place called the blog-o-sphere? Can’t wait to hear!

I have to admit that sometimes it scares me whenever I write about a subject that inspires people. What if I don’t get across as clear and as inspiring as I hoped I would be? Nevertheless, after I have posted my thoughts, I assure myself that somewhere, somehow, someone will find my post beneficial. I write because 1) I want to share the time-honored thoughts about motivation that I came across from books and personal mentors, 2) I want to directly inspire and 3) I write because it’s my passion.

Good work, Kammie! I’ve never been so conscious about a blogger’s influence until I read this post.

That was an utterly Kam-tastic post, dear girlfriend! Woot! I just feel the passion dripping off of the laptop screen and into my fingertips! smile

BTW, that blogging conference will be here in Chicago - as will BlogHer this summer - you are officially invited to crash on my comfy couch! smile

Hugs,

Wendy

Charlie~

Thanks for so openly sharing your fears about “putting yourself out there”...I too had those same fears (still do sometimes).
But now I look at it as a way to be ME in this world, ya know? Like I get to speak MY truth, and hope that it resonates or strikes a chord within others to help educate, heal, make ‘em laugh or all of the above!

Wendy~
You are so sweet...I just may take you up on the couch crashing in Chi-town (hey that sounds like a post already!)...
Let’s talk ofline about the 2 conferences OK?
And thank YOU for inspiring me to spread the “why do you blog” conversation around. Seems like if we’re changing the world one post at a time, it would be cool to know what drives people to do what they do…

More soon,
Kamsmile
