Gorgeous is an Inside Job

Passionate Theme of the Day: Getting Gorgeous

"The day they make me gorgeous, I’d like to hang around...like a ceiling fan mounted upside down. I’ll only have three settings...all of them will seem to suckair out of the room, like gorgeous/gorgeous-er/gorgeous-est. Ahhh, look at me! Naww...look at me why don’t you? Gorgeous is the antidote to eyesore.” ~Rives, Slam Poetry Artist

I’ve been inspired by this video from slam-poetry artist Rives. Why does his poem “Gorgeous” strike my fancy? Watch it to get the full impact, but here’s the thought it inspired within me:

What if we were already GORGEOUS? Think about it. Most people are working on trying to get gorgeous, right? Or manifest some form of a more gorgeous life.

Quick story. I have a client dealing with self-confidence issues (haven’t we all dealt with this?)...so here’s an exercise I created:

Make a list of words that we want to be and project out into the world.

Then take a word a day - whichever word we need that day to feel more-better-brighter in this often bossy, crazy, mixed-up world and wear it. One day it might be GORGEOUS, the next it might be LOVE, another it might be CONFIDENCE, etc.

Imagine it’s a favorite item of clothing (Could be a hot t-shirt, a pair of sexy jeans, or some ultra sassy sling backs…whatever works for you) and really WORK it!

As we walk thru the world wearing GORGEOUS, we ask ourselves:

What does GORGEOUS walk like?

What does GORGEOUS talk like?

How does GORGEOUS interact with co-workers?

What does GORGEOUS say to itself when it looks in the mirror?

How does GORGEOUS interact with the opposite sex?

What does GORGEOUS say to strangers?

What does GORGEOUS eat?

Does GORGEOUS work out?

How does GORGEOUS dress?

What kind of vibe does GORGEOUS spread in the world?

You see, if we already ARE what we desire to BE, we increase our energetic vibration toward attracting more of the people, places, situations and circumstances that will help us move one step closer toward BEING that which we desire. If I want to BE gorgeous, and I don’t want to get my butt outta bed and work out, but I ask, “Does GORGEOUS work out?”…I’m gonna hear a voice shout out, “Hell yeah, GORGEOUS works out! You think GORGEOUS hits the snooze button?” Uh-uh. No way.

If want to talk to that handsome stranger at the coffee shop, but feel a little too shy or intimidated to strike up a conversation, but I ask, “How does GORGEOUS talk to the opposite sex?” I’ll surely hear a flirtatious voice answer, “Hello there tall, dark and handsome. May I join you?” You see GORGEOUS doesn’t wait. GORGEOUS doesn’t know that it’s NOT already GORGEOUS.

What if you knew you were already gorgeous? Not 20 pounds less then now. Not after that promotion. Not after that striking stranger asks you out. But today. Maybe you want confidence or sexiness, or peace, or joy, or serenity. Take that word and wrap yourself up in it. Wear it and flaunt it. Try it. See if YOU don’t feel more IT instantly.

Getting gorgeous is an inside job. Getting happy, successful, rich, thin, satisfied…it ALL starts by changing your mind - and BEING it right now. I challenge you to take GORGEOUS out for a test drive today. What have you got to lose?

Rockin’ my Gorgeous-ness,
K to the K

ps...I submitted this post to Craig Harper’s blog...keep your fingers crossed that he decided to submit it in his Lessons from Readers series! He’s taking submissions till Sunday...what are you waiting for? Get your gorgeous self over there and get some shameless self-promotion! Yee-haw ya’ll…

Kam, I think the very solution to our lack of gorgeousness is found in the poet’s own poem. He says, “The day they make me gorgeous”. As a society we wait for others to make us into something we already are. He continues to say, “..look at me. why don’t you?” Again, our problem is the desire for approval from others. The root problem is that others see us from the outside but our gorgeousness is hidden within. They can’t see that! Discovering the inner beauty of who we are is the key.

Hello Herman,

You hit the nail right on the head! Wouldn’t it be cool if we could “see” all the gorgeousness of a person’s insides when we look at them. Maybe this thing is not just us knowing and owning our own gorgeousness...maybe it’s also about looking for the gorgeousness of others FIRST..before we judge, criticize, ridicule or chastize??

Maybe we can start a gorgeousness support system and really let others know how amazing we think they are...so like if we see a stranger lending a helping hand, maybe we comment on it and let thank them for their gorgeous generosity…

Hmmm, you got me thinking now about a gorgeous campaign...I’ll get back to you!

Thanks for stirring up the gorgeous conversation another notch!
