Passionate Theme of the Day: Moodling
“Moodling, a combination of musing and mental doodling, can lead to floating over any number of obstacles...” ~Jane Champagne
I’ve got a case of the Monday’s. Can’t quite focus (again). Not quite funky, but a little off kilter. I feel like a caged animal. Like I need to see something new. Like I need a vacation or at least a quick road trip. Need new art. New architecture. New visual stimuli. New people. New experiences. New input.
I know that’s when I should get really present and see my current situation with new eyes. Yeah, I get all that. But sometimes the muses aren’t speaking to me. I need a dash of creative inspiration and that’s when I know I need to shake things up a bit. Fortuantely for me, I got a head start this weekend.
Went to the Mat Kearney show Saturday night. Mat is one of my new musical crushes these days. He is too amazing. He had this really cool musician open for him named Griffin House. Griffin is a little bit Johnny Cash a lotta Griffin House. He’s definintely got the whole singer/songwriter intensity down pat, along with the sweetest smile and warmest stage presence. His songs make you feel like you’re having a few beers with a friend swapping road warrior stories. Connie and I especially dug "The Guy That Says Goodbye to You is Out of His Mind”...we know he wrote that one just for us...(yeah, so did every woman in the room!).
Music definitely helps me tune back in. I also love art, photography, conversation and learning about new things. I’m really lucky this week. I’ll probably be bitchin’ about being on information/inspiration overload by the end of the week!
Wednesday, I’m going to a seminar with multiple streams of income coach & internet marketing guru, Andrea J. Lee. Can’t wait to listen to her live and soak up all the latest goodies to help market my business online. Then Thursday starts the International Coach Federation national convention. Luckily it’s here in the STL, so I saved a pretty penny on hotel and airfare.
My good friend Pam is flying in Wed. evening and we’re gonna have a girls night before the conference. OK, I’m gonna kick my case of the Monday’s right on outta here! I asked for inspiration, creativity, and joy and the Universe is answering my wishes yet again. I’m curious though…
What do you do when your creative juices dry up? What do you do when it’s time to step outside of yourself and see things with fresh eyes? How do you shake things up and take a look at the same things in a different way? What ways do you seek and find inspiration, cultivate creativity and evoke joy? What gets you all fired up? Let me know how you evoke the muses when they’re giving you the silent treatment.
Joy & creativity to you,
Kam

Awwww..that is SO freakin’ cool! Thanks so much for the compliment. I’m glad I can provide an inspiration “boost” for you.
That’s why I do what I do. Thank you for re-affirming that for me!!
I love walking and music as well...always gets things rattling around.
Thanks for stopping by…

Hey Kam,
I think about this a lot. When you work in a marketing agency, you have to be creative on command. Some days that is easier said than done.
When I am feeling stuck and everything I write feels trite or forced, I get up and move. If I’m at work, I might go for a walk and just breathe. If I’m at home, I might crank up the tunes and either dance or work out. Music is such a powerful creativity engine. Is there a song or genre of music that fires you up?
And...the best creativity starter of all for me? Hanging out with my daughter. We talk, laugh, play, joke, think...we connect. And in that connection, I find creative energy to burn.
Great question...as usual.
Best,
Drew

There are two things that I like to do when my “snow scene” needs to be shaken a little. First, I am with you. I love music. As a former night club DJ, I still love making music mixes. Working on a music mix and listening to music that I enjoy always reawakens my creativity big time. Second, I try to focus on giving to others. It can be anything from holding the door open or giving a compliment to delivering a meal to someone homebound or participating in a charity (and everything else in between). All of this feels good and always energizes me, bringing me back to that ZenChill flow of mine.

I love that you hang with your daughter. how old is she? I get a LOT of inspiration when I hang out with my 2 year old niece. She is such a creative force to be reckoned with! The kids definitely have that “magic” all over ‘em!!
And music is like a religious expereince for me...singing is like prayer and dancing is such a cool way to connect with our inner child and our spiritual center.
Thanks for the reminder to MOVE!!

I didn’t know Mr. Zenchill was a former DJ...too cool! I know, music mixes are such a great way to “zone” out or “tune in” whichever way you wanna look at it.
I love getting lost in a theme too...and thanks for the snow globe analogy...what a great visual reminder to “shake things up”!!!
Be well friend,

Hi Friend : )
I too have been in the “need something” mode lately. So here goes for my usual “remedy”
1. Get OUT
Nature, new exercize class, book store, coffee with someone new, or even a random stranger at the coffee shop, go see an “off the beat and path” film or musician, go to the spa and treat yourself like the “Queen” that you are, plan a weekend away (or even a day trip to a new place), schedule a “girls night out” and go to a new restaurant with food you’ve never tried....
Anyway, I know that often times when I feel this way it is because I’m in my cave too much and need to “get out”.

I love the “get outta the cave” part!!
Too true...I get so stoked about what it is I do when I come home from my day gig, that sometimes I just rock out on the computer for tooooo long…
I need to get out of here and get some “new” stuff to help open my eyes again. Thanks for the reminder to treat myself like a “queen” too.
Love you!

Why I come read your blog
Really I do, I also listen to a CD or go for a walk. Sometimes I call up a friend to see what’s going on in their life. I just listen to their stories. It gets me out of myself.
