Be Unique, Kick the Critique - Self-Love is Where it’s At

Following up on a thread of thought spurred on by my good friend Pam at Make the Most of U.  She recently asked the question, “Do you care what you think?” Her post was an inquiry into placing too much weight on what other people think of you. Cuz let’s face it - the only person that really matters is YOU. So what do you think about you?

I tend to hear or read something and then float into a random stream of consciousness something like this: what do I think about me? Who do I think I am? I am bold, happy, positive, fiery, sassy, ambitious, driven, courageous and scared - but more afraid of NOT going for “it” - whatever it might be on any given day - kooky, goofy, funny, silly - will they think I’m “too” much? Will they “get me”? Will my words resonate with many or few? Do I care? Isn’t it more important to reach a few who get it rather than many that don’t?

THE coolest people who DO get it have been showing up on my virtual doorstep almost daily. Hell, some have even been showing up in my “real life” too. Life is good. Who cares what the naysayers say. Connie calls them “naysayers and boo-bears”, I call ‘em nasty. Don’t try to rain on my parade. No stealing my thunder. Go out there and create your own. If you got a case of the green meanies from looking over at what I got, then go out and create some goodness of your own. Donna calls ‘em haters. She says there are always haters along the way. She loves scripture. I wish I new the one she says about haters. It’s profound.

And so on and so on and so on it goes. Back to the topic of what do you think about you? Better yet - let’s shift into “What do you LOVE about you”? Let’s celebrate today with some self-love. You know I love Jason Mraz and he says “You gotta have it your way with yourself”…OK, we KNOW he’s talking about the other kind of self-love, but who cares!

Which way do you wanna have it? Are you choosing self-love or self-hate? Are you choosing to shine your light or hide it under a basket? Are you choosing to adore and nourish your mind, body and spirit? Or are you choosing to retreat back down “Nega-mojo Lane”? Meaning falling into negative thoughts, behaviors or actions. Maybe not negative, maybe just thoughts, behaviors or actions that are no longer inline with the new you? Or the you you aspire to be. What does that you look like? What does “you 2.0” feel like? Sound like? Dress like? Work like? Love like? Play like?

Let’s celebrate our uniqueness and kick the critique’s ass! Who said we had to look like this and talk like that? Who said we had to follow this path or marry this mate or pursue this career path? If you are still dancing to the beat of someone else’s drum, it’s time for an intervention. Get over it. Create your own soundtrack. You a little bit country? Cool. Or a little bit rock-n-roll? Bad-ass. You dig hip-hop or smooth jazz or bayou blues or rockabilly? Sweet. Just dance the dance you create. Shake yo thang in ALL its fine glory. Don’t play small. Think BIG. Don’t hide in the corner. Be BOLD. Don’t shy away from your fans. Stand up and revel in the applause. It’s your big life…drink it up!

Live BIG. Live juicy. Live passionately.

Kelly~

Thanks for the note and I hear ya on pondering where our negative thoughts come from. Sometimes they just drift on in...but we can just as easily kinly ask them to leave. Or kick their butts out!
